No, Ranger Cole was aware that he needed to approach the animal. The mud from the riverside made it difficult for the animal to move away, and it was struggling more and more with each minute that went by. Several times, the animal nearly fell back into the water as it slipped and slid everywhere. Cole had to figure out how to get across the river.
