The explanation that Prince William and Kate in the eyes of the public did not show much affection was because they were working. We could tell that hugging or holding hands while on duty was inappropriate. That was also why the royal couple, especially in the public or mass press, would not have displayed their unconditional love. They both understood their responsibility and their role as a monarchy.

Emily Nash of Hello said in the interview in 2017: “ The Duke and Duchess are almost always seen in photographs taken during official engagements, so they are at ‘work,’ and it would be unprofessional to hold hands.” She then went on to say, “They also need to shake hands with a huge number of people as they meet them, so aside from being on duty, it wouldn’t be convenient!” As she explicitly stated why the royal couple would display no love for each other in public.
