Normal Affection or Not?
As the night progressed, I convinced myself that her attachment was likely normal. After all, children are quick to grasp new concepts. Later, when we finally put her to bed, she fell asleep quickly, clutching the little doll in her tiny arms. I studied her for a few moments, comforted by the gentle rise and fall of her chest. Maybe there was nothing to worry about, I reasoned, returning softly to the living room.

My husband and I sank into the couch, movie on, ready to unwind. Everything appeared normal, until a slight clicking noise interrupted us. “Did you hear that?” I inquired, focusing my gaze to the dark corners of the room. He looked up, shaking it off. “It’s probably just the house settling,” he said, hoping to calm my fears. I reluctantly shrugged the feeling away and returned to our movie night.
