Hoping for swift action
They waited anxiously, hoping for quick action from the cops. Daryl squirmed uneasily in his chair, attempting to remain calm among the mounting stress. His father peered at the clock every few moments, feeling increasingly frustrated with each tick. Conversations around them were silent, but they barely noticed. Their attention remained fixed on the front desk, waiting for someone to call their names and finally take their complaint seriously.

Another hour passes
About an hour later, a police officer asked Daryl to accompany him to provide more information. Daryl’s father gave him a troubled look as he stood up. The officer took him down a hallway away from the waiting area. “Please, just give us some answers,” his father mumbled, but Daryl had already followed the officer, his footsteps echoing on the linoleum floor. The officer’s calm manner did little to relieve Daryl’s anxiety.
