Preserving my pride
I stood there, stunned for a moment, before taking a deep breath and clinging to whatever pride and dignity I had left. My heart pounded as I picked up my packed bags. Keeping my head high, I quietly walked out. I wished she could see the pain and hurt she had caused, but I knew better than to expect any kindness from her now. It was over at her house.

Seated on the sidewalk
After leaving her house, I sat on the curb, staring blankly at the road, my mind racing with uncertainty. Where would I go next? I felt stuck. Just then, a neighbor from a few houses down walked by. He paused when he saw me, his expression filled with concern. “Hey, are you alright?” he asked, breaking the silence. His kind voice startled me, and in that moment, I realized I wasn’t completely alone in this world.
