She was furious
Fuming, my mother-in-law grabbed my arm, shoved me to the ground, and ordered me to clean up the mess. I was shaking, light-headed, and nauseous, but I forced myself to keep going, knowing my warm bed was at stake. Later that night, around eleven o’clock, I went downstairs to tell her that I had finished everything on her list. But her reaction was nothing like I expected.

I walked into the living room, where my mother-in-law was engrossed in her TV show. “I finished everything on the list,” I told her. She barely looked up, sneering as she responded, “Good for you. Now get out.” Her words stung, but I stayed silent. Even after completing every task, she still kicked me out. I had done my part, hadn’t I? But with no other choice, I found myself leaving anyway.
